The idea
Small businesses have three bad options for a website: overpay an agency, wrestle a page builder, or never launch. 99Websites is a fourth — a productized service with one honest price ($99 to build, $99/year to host), a custom single-page site (not a template), and no CMS for the owner to learn.
The problem
The market is huge and underserved, and the reason it's underserved is unit economics: custom work at $99 only works if the process is ruthlessly productized. That — not the design — was the actual product problem to solve.
How I approached it
I designed the whole pipeline as the product: a short industry-aware intake, an internal build step, a client review portal with no logins and no CMS, one revision round, and launch on managed hosting. The price and the “2–3 business days” promise are product decisions — they define what the process has to be. The marketing site, the portal, and the ops tooling were built with AI to my spec, and AI drives the site-production step itself to hit the price point.
What shipped
A live productized service at 99websites.co: transparent flat pricing, an intake that adapts to the trade, a managed client portal, mobile-responsive builds with SEO foundations, and real launched sites. Go-to-market targets one trade at a time — “We build websites for roofers.”
What I'd do next
Track the funnel from landing page to intake completed to paid, pin down true delivery cost per site, and decide whether the wedge is a single vertical or the “any trade” breadth.
